For this entry I had an awesome Idea and a elaborate set up … Which failed miserably.
A bowl with a whirl pool so I could drup the powder in and have it swirl all around like shooting stars and a bright single light to the right.
HOWEVER. the freaking powder just mixed and became a single shade of grey. so as a last resort I started playing around with piles of baby powder. Tube running from my mouth to the side. and trying to time blowing into the tube and firing the camera at the same time.
Using nothing but self developed film, I was limited to my Canon AE-1’s fastest shutter speed for 1/1000sec. So even this mostly turned out like smoke. Only a few fragments frozen in time. Not really happy with it. A friend looked at it and thought it was a photo of a wave breaking on the beach in the distance, with the spray in the air. Which I can kinda see. And probably should have used that in the name.
If anything, this comp always pushes us to think a bit differently . For me, being new to developing my own film, it really made me use the dark room in creative ways. Different mixes of chemicals, and playing with the enlarger. So despite making it to the finals. Ive gained a lot of experience in the lab. :) Good luck to all involved. Im sure everyone got something out of the experience.

Using film this year I was limited to my Canon AE-1’s fastest speed of 1/1000sec. I also used high light sensitivity film (Ilford Delta 3200iso) which also give incredible grain, Which I love. Playing with baby powder, I ended up with a small pile, with which I blast with air through a plastic tube (bottom right) only some specs where captured suspended the rest turing to a dust storm. Developed at home using Kodak D76 1+1 20mins @ 28ºc (pushed 1 stop). Print with Ilford Mutigrade IV RC Paper and chems (8x10)”
